Male alopecia refers to the seborrheic alopecia. Minoxidil solution can be used in treating male androgenetic alopecia. After 3 months’ use, 2/3 of patients have mild to moderate hair growth. In 12 months, 74% of patients’ appearances have a significant improvement. Minoxidil is equally effective for female androgenetic alopecia.

Many drugs affect the hair growth cycle and cause hair loss. Hair loss anticancer drugs has a significant adverse reactions, minoxidil can reduce chemotherapy-induced hair loss. Alopecia areata is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease, a substantial proportion of patients with self-healing tendency of poor prognosis, but relapse is common, longer duration or the alopecia widely. Many treatments may promote hair growth of alopecia areata, but not yet confirmed which way to change the natural course of alopecia areata, and randomized controlled clinical trial rarely. Minoxidil treatments of alopecia areata have a certain effect, and showed a dose-dependent.

Minoxidil is a vasodilator for the treatment of hypertension. But the mechanism of hair loss treatment is not primarily to dilate blood vessels. According to experimental studies, in the hair follicles in vitro, by adding minoxidil increase the cultivation of the hair follicle growth time. The hair follicle hepatocyte growth factor and vascular endothelial cell growth factor is the dermal papilla of the two major growth factor, an important role in the regulation of hair growth cycle. Minoxidil can upregulate the expression of dermal papilla cells of vascular endothelial cell growth factor mRNA. Therefore considered that minoxidil through the above cytokines to stimulate and maintain hair follicle growth and prolong the hair follicle growth phase, so that miniaturization of the hair follicle to increase and promote tretinoin dermal papilla blood vessel formation and function, which plays an important role in the treatment of hair loss.

Androgen alopecia is also known as seborrheic alopecia, male hair loss or early bald. Males and females may both meet the occurrence. However, its clinical manifestations are different. Male pattern androgenetic alopecia began to start with the forehead on both sides of temples. It is the gradual reduction in M-shaped, and finally most or all will fall off. Sometimes, hairs on forehead, temples and top are falling off at the same time. There are cases which began to fall from the top, but the occipital hair is generally not affected. Female androgenetic alopecia people are mostly hair sparse at the top, while the forehead remains unchanged. Whether male or female, it mostly occurred in the 12 to 40 years old. It is a polygenic inheritance. The pathogenesis of the disease, in addition to genetic factors, is closely related to androgen metabolism and they can be treated with minoxidil.
